When a company based in Newbury, Berkshire contacted us looking for a Finance Director urgently we were confident, as a leading finance recruitment specialist in the Thames Valley, we would be able to help.

The issue

The client, a niche supplier of specialist technology distributing to clients both in the UK and internationally, required a Finance Director to start work right away.

The solution

Stephen Beagent Associates immediately went to see the Chairman and Managing Director to take a detailed brief for the finance role and to understand the culture and environment within the department and company.

The company needed a Finance Director with specific experience to drive the business forward and grow the company to the next level. They were seeking a fully qualified accountant, not necessarily with previous experience as a Finance Director. However, their most important requirement was the individual’s fit with the senior management team.

Moreover, since initially contacting us, they had also decided they needed a Management Accountant to strengthen the finance team. The role would involve deputising for the FD role as necessary and would also be responsible for the monthly management accounts, sales analysis and cashflow forecasting, purchase and sales ledger management, credit control and payroll, as well as assisting in IT, HR and health and safety administration. They felt that someone qualified by experience and who had a good all round accountancy background would be the right fit.

As they needed this person quickly it became even more imperative to fill the FD role swiftly so that they too could be involved with the recruitment of the Management Accountant.

Stephen Beagent Associates immediately drew up a shortlist of suitable candidates from their database ensuring each met the relevant technical criteria and client’s requirements. The client, impressed by the shortlist, decided to see all six for interview. Three were selected for second interview and shortly afterwards an offer of a job was made to a delighted candidate.

The new Finance Director was able to start almost immediately. In the meantime, Stephen Beagent Associates had started work on the Management Accountant role. We were confident that we knew precisely the type of person required for the role and their fit within the company and submitted two very strong candidates, one of whom was very clearly the right person for the role. After interview the FD agreed and the candidate was in position soon afterwards.

1 month and 3 month follow-ups with both the client and candidate confirmed that we had successfully found the right people for the roles and the candidates were delighted with the positions Stephen Beagent Associates had found them.
